My humans run road races of all distances although Diana became something of a Marathon 'specialist'. She made the 'elite' start of the London Marathon several times and as a Supervet (0ver 45), achieved a best time of 3 hours 11 minutes.
Other fine 'supervet' performances include 10 mile times between 62 and 63 minutes and 10k times below 38 minutes. Diana's favourite terrain is off-road and she represented England at cross-country in 1997.
Two knee operations to repair torn cartilage and splintered bone took Diana out of the sport for over a year in 1998. The operations were not a complete success although she returned to cross-country and took up Race Walking and was selected to represent Cambs. in the National Cross-Country Championships.
Cycling and Race Walking feature regularly in her training and she won the Gold Medal when taking the age-related National 20k Race Walking title in 2003 - a title she defended successfully in 2004 and then regained in 2006! In 2009 Diana took the National age-related 10k Race Walking title.
Diana presently holds the ParkRun course records in her age category.
Terry has been 'good for his age' and as a 'supervet' (over 50) had best times of a little over 65 minutes for 10 miles, several sub-40 minutes 10k times and a 1 hour 29 minutes half-marathon. His longest race as a 'young' supervet was an annual 20-miler (2:29) but he undertook Marathon training with his Club during the winter months. Latterly, he has completed several marathons - each poorly - as a result of spinal stenosis.
However, Terry began competitive athletics at the age of 11 as a promising sprinter and in his mid-teens represented his County several times at 100 and 440 yards and was also selected to represent the AAA. In 1959, as a 15-year-old he ran 10 seconds flat (wind assisted) for 100 yards and 54.0 for 440 yards.
Emily won many Junior races at distances of up to 5 miles and ran 33 minutes 20 seconds for 4 miles a fortnight after her 11th birthday. Her first success was storming home in first in an Under-3's race. She represented her school both on the track and at cross-country and still holds her former school's cross-country record. She has the 'distinction' of having finished Junior cross-country races ahead of two current international athletes.
